From chronic pain to champion athlete
I went from sitting on the computer all day, to training hard everyday.
Very quickly my body started hurting. I had pain in my shoulders, shins, and knees. I was only 20 years old. I spent the next 4 years living with chronic pain. My movement skills plateaued, I was slow, clumsy, awkward and I had no idea how to use my body. I tried every sort of treatment: physiotherapists, sports-scientists, acupuncture, massage. None of it worked. So, I tried to solve the problem myself, I started reading, and researching, and slowly I began to put things together. A new picture of the body developed. Instead of isolated and independent ideas of ‘core stability’ and ‘shoulder mobility’ I came to see the body as a single holistic unit. I started to learn to see my own patterns, my own posture. I started to learn to move. This felt like a revolution.
With the help of some great teachers, and some hard work, my years of chronic pain finally resolved. After 4 years I could finally move my body again. I stopped waking up with aches and pains, I felt like a kid again. Not only that, but my performance also started to rapidly improve. I could jump further, run faster, and was getting stronger by the day. I’ve since gone on to win several parkour championships. Including the New Zealand Parkour Speed Champion, and I took 1st place at the Belt and Road International Parkour Masters Competition in Ningbo, China. I also looked better, breathed easier, and felt healthier and younger than ever before. I have spent the last seven years refining this process, including completing a BSc in exercise science and psychology.
These days my mission is to teach what I’ve learnt to others, helping them resolve their own pain and performance issues. I know what it’s like to be stuck in pain, and I know the way out. I’m constantly refining my methodology and approach, integrating the latest from science with practical experiences in the field. Ultimately, my goal is to help you, become the best you possible.
