What happens in a consultation?

We’ll start by running through your own unique personal history, your injuries, complaints, pain, and anything else that brought you through the door. Whether that be low back pain, knee pain, shin splints, shoulder or neck pain, sports performance issues, or just your general posture. Once we understand what we’re starting with, and where you’d like to go we’ll run a series of assessments. These are designed to help us, and you, understand what’s going on with your body.

We will look at way you use your body, normally. This includes analysing your standing and sitting posture, your gait and any other basic movement patterns that are relevant. Once we’ve gone through each assessment as needed, each aspect of your current movement patterns will be explained to you in a way that’s practical and easy to understand.

Understanding these patterns is the first step to being able to change them. Once you understand what’s going on in your body, we can start to build a new you. We’ll run through a series of positional and support adjustments to centralise your position. Each adjustment builds on the previous, encompassing the entire body, not just an isolated body part like a shoulder or knee. Together these will allow you to arrive at a new central balanced position. This is moving towards the biologically ideal position for you, given your unique combination of limb lengths, height, and training background. We’ll then show you how to bring this new balanced position into your everyday life. Learning these new patterns is hard work, this isn’t an easy fix, it’s a real fix. We aren’t treating anything, we are giving you the tools to treat yourself.

Once you start to learn these new ways of using your body, you can begin to sort out your pain, performance and appearance problems. This is a process not an event. The average person usually needs 2-6 sessions over a couple of months.

With that said, individual needs can vary and some people may need more or fewer sessions to reach their goals. However, after a single session, you will be able to immediately feel and see the difference, alleviate symptoms and understand how to get to the new you.

Frequently asked questions

How long will it take?

The first session will take around 1 hour. This begins with an initial assessment looking at your particular case history and the rest is practical work and explanation in front of a mirror. Follow up sessions are either 1 hour, or 30 minutes, depending on your particular needs.

Can you help with my unique problem?

Every person, and every body is different, but we all share fundamental principles. We have (roughly) the same muscles and skeleton design and physics doesn’t change. The same rules (like gravity) apply to all of us. If you’re unsure, send Theo an email and have a chat.

Where are you based?

We are currently based in a studio in Mt Eden. We can also adjust based on what is most convenient to you, including meeting at your home, or your gym.

How do you differ from other trainers?

This is not treatment. We won’t be doing things to you that you don’t understand and you will not be a passive observer in the process. This is education and cooperation. We’ll help you understand what is going wrong, and why, but you’ll be the one who gets to do something about it.
